December 6th

1790: The U.S. Congress moves from New York City to Philadelphia, when the government realizes Philadelphia is more conducive to political scumbags.

1865: The 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is ratified, banning slavery... the news has yet to reach the bosses at Denny's.

1933: U.S. federal judge John M. Woolsey rules that the James Joyce's novel Ulysses is not obscene... freeing up millions of high school students to just get the Cliff's Notes version without fear of missing any really good stuff.

1965: Pakistan's Islamic Ideology Advisory Committee recommends that Islamic Studies be made a compulsory subject for Muslim students from primary to graduate level. Non-Muslim students are still persecuted, but at least now they get a free period.
