1876: Alexander Graham Bell is granted a patent for the telephone. Later the invention achieves great success as something you can text with.


1887: North Carolina State University is founded by the North Carolina General Assembly and marketers for Jack Daniels.


1989: Iran and Britain break diplomatic relations after a row over Salman Rushdie and his controversial novel. Both countries do agree, however, that the book sucks.
