January 27th

1888: The National Geographic Society is founded in Washington, D.C., dedicated to helping teenage boys see topless pictures of women from Africa.

1973: The Paris Peace Accords officially end the Vietnam War and give Oliver Stone a career.

You, me and over 2 billion more

In Norwegian media today we could learn that we now are more than 2 billion Internet users in the world.
I looked up the figures in the Worldometers real time and found the following statistics around 8pm ect.:
It was also clear that my blogpost would be only one out of half a million today.
From the same website I saw that the World population now has passed 6.900 millions with almost 10 millions newborn children since NewYear.
The population Milestones shown below can give us some thoughts and reflections, and perhaps one understanding of the migration wave we presently experience around the world.

Happy One Year Blog Birthday to Us!

Today is our one year blog birthday! It's been a terrific year filled with beauty, fun and friendship. As a gift to our readers here is a recipe for the most yummy cake you'll ever make. The secret I think is in the separating the eggs and beating the egg whites. The cake is moist and delicious and works for any occasion. It's a great party cake and was given to me by a wonderful friend whose mother put together a cook book of Atlanta recipes (in 1975) - called Atlanta Natives' Favorite Recipes. The recipe came from Mrs. Samuel Barnett (Dorothy Willett).

Sour Cream Cake

2 sticks butter
3 cups sugar
6 eggs, separated
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 cup sour cream
3 cups plain sifted flour
2 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp vanilla

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolks, one a time, beating well after each addition. Mix soda into sour cream. Add flour, alternating with sour cream. Add flavoring. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Pour into well greased and floured bundt pan. Bake one and a half hours (90 minutes) at 300 degrees.

Enjoy!

ABC Wednesday--B

I guess I am establishing a pattern (no pun intended) of finding and posting a "sketch" of a quilt block for the letter of the week, and not getting the block made till the following week. Hopefully I will get caught up.

Today's sketches for the letter B:

Block
 Island
 Puzzle

The block was originally published in Quilter's Newsletter Magazine sometime in the 70s. Where Block Island might be, or what else it references, I do not know.

This one is a
Blazing
Star.

It is one of fourteen blocks known by that name. The naming of quilt blocks is influenced by time and region. A block know by one name in one state in the late 1880s, might be called something else in another area in the 1930s.

This version of the Blazing Star was published in 1966 by Dolores Hinson in Quilter's Manual in the 60s.
Last week I posted a sketch of Anna's Block which I decided could as easily be called Anna's Star. Here is my block. I thought it would be easy. It wasn't difficult, but it did take some concentration, as I sewed some parts together pretty strangely trying to find a shortcut way of assembly.

ABC Wednesday Round 8 is at home here. Thanks Denise and all who help her keep it going and all those who participate.

Sex Offender Bill
A Virginia state senator has introduced legislation to castrate sex offenders. The bill is extremely popular, almost as popular as legislation to castrate state senators.

Big Donation
A UCLA alumnus who made a fortune in the animal feed business is donating $100 million to the university's public policy school... where professors teach everyone that people who make fortunes in the animal feed business are eco-terrorists.

Taco Bell Lawsuit
A new lawsuit claims that the beef in Taco Bell menu items is not 100% beef. By the way, whatever happened to that chihuahua that used to do the Taco Bell commercials?

Zsa Zsa in the Red
Because of massive debt, Zsa Zsa Gabor now needs to sell her $28 million house. For $29 million, you can have her amputated leg too.

Packer Fan Hired
The salesman fired for wearing a Packer tie to work at a Chicago car dealership has been offered a new job at a nearby car dealership... where people who buy a new car will get the chance to punch the guy wearing the Packer tie.

B is for Bryggen in Bergen By day and By night

To those who were Born in Bergen I don't have to say any more.

For those who were not, here is a UNESCO-link.
