1861: Jefferson Davis is elected president of the Confederate States of America. Yosemite Sam is elected Vice President.

1869: Rutgers defeats Princeton University in the first college football game. Some of the best Rutgers players are still with the team as 141st-year seniors.

1918: The Second Polish Republic is proclaimed in Poland. This was necessary because someone lost the first republic in the wash.
