Odd Shot Monday

I was tempted to go get something for my Gard, but I needed some pparel.

Last week the Linky did not work. I will give it another try. Please leave a comment with your link as the links from the Linky are not showing. I will find another Linky service for future posts or figure out what is wrong with this one.

Working humor

Nothing much out of the ordinary about this shot that admittedly I snapped while following this work van from an electrical company in our area. Distracted driving? Well, I was already distracted.
I tried to catch him at the next light, but had to settle for zooming this one in so you could see what it says on the back.
Funny signs are fair game for Odd Shots. Join us coming up each Monday starting February 7.

ABC Wednesday--O is for Old

O is for OLD.

When we saw these signs in Edinburgh, it gave us a smile. We are exercising regularly to hopefully avoid being that bent when we are old. Hey wait, depending on your perspective, we ARE already old.

O is for OLDER.

The cathedral at Lincoln is considerably older than we are--well--by several hundred years, though the current amazing structure is not as old as its beginnings shortly after the Norman Invasion.

I have to think really hard about what we have in North America that is that old.
O is for OLDEST. This is the probably the oldest thing we saw while we were in the UK. This is one of the small gateways on Hadrian's Wall, built across the north of England in 122 AD.
ABC Wednesday--now on O for the seventh time. See it here.

And the Pubs

I promised pub signs and here is one of the most famous--or is it infamous. The popular pub commemorates Deacon Brodie, good citizen by day, robber by night and possibly the real life persona of Dr. Jekyll (or Mr. Hyde.)

Those hanging signs are not just for pubs. The one above is obvious. The one below marks an exhibit on the history of conditions of the working class.

Pubs are not just beer and ale. They are a good spot for a meal. Our fish and chips were prepared in this tiny kitchen at the End of the World. The End of the World got its name because it is at the site of the city gates of the walled city of the 16th century.
Since no one would consider going beyond those gates, it was the end of their world. Brass bricks mark the location in the street outside.

A pub at Greyfriars marks the neighborhood where  a pup named Bobby demonstrated his loyalty to his master. Bobby had been the companion of Jock, who guarded the cattle brought to market. When Jock took sick and died in the winter of 1858, Bobby followed his funeral procession to the graveyard, where he remained for fourteen years, leaving only for a meal in the nearby pub that Jock and he had frequented.

Signs of my world

The City Daily Photo group have a theme day on the first of every month. Though I gave up my Yakima Valley Daily Photo blog almost a year ago, I enjoyed participating in these theme days. Today they are posting funny signs, and I thought I would join their world with this one picked up on our camping trip this weekend when we stopped in at the Visitor Center at Paradise.

I couldn't decide if there was a difference in the weather. Lower down in the old growth forest, there was not much difference in the 40% chance of rain and the 85% chance of rain while it was falling.

This was My World this last weekend.

Odd Shots on Monday--Signs you might see only in Alaska

Some of them anyway. You are not likely to see this one many other places.

I suppose elevators can be slow in other places as well. Thank you for letting us know, though.

Would you have thought to mention it?

But then again, if you need a notice to see that a fence is not an entrance...

I post Odd Shots on Mondays. I invite you to join me, but I am no longer using a Mr. Linky--you can let us know you have an Odd Shot by leaving a comment.
