December 3rd

1901: President Theodore Roosevelt delivers a 20,000-word speech to the House of Representatives asking Congress to curb the power of trusts… and help him find a way to shut himself up.

1964: Berkeley Free Speech Movement. Police arrest over 800 students at the University of California, Berkeley, following their takeover and sit-in at the administration building in protest… and we’re still waiting for someone at Berkeley to say something worth listening to.

1973: Pioneer 10 sends back the first close-up images of Jupiter. The astronomy community is unanimous in its initial reaction: “Lipo! Stat!!”
