June 13th



1525: Martin Luther marries Katharina von Bora, breaking the celibacy rule for Roman Catholic priests, and breaking the hearts of all the bishops who thought he had a pretty mouth.


1774: Rhode Island becomes the first colony to ban the importation of slaves... but paying morons 2 cents a year to ferry tourists in and out of Newport is still legal today.


1893: President Grover Cleveland undergoes secret, successful surgery to remove a large, cancerous portion of his jaw. For most politicians, this area is actually always cancerous, and it's called "the mouth."
