1842: The Second Seminole War ends, with the Seminoles forced from Florida to Oklahoma, and without most of their best linebackers.


1848: Oregon Territory is organized by act of Congress. Since then, Congress has only disorganized things.


1935: United States Social Security Act passes, creating a government pension system for the retired. And a nice mirage for everyone born after 1960.
